Beginning with Posture
For embodied wellbeing
What is Posture?
Most people would describe posture as a way of holding the body — like keeping your head up, shoulders back, chest proud, and so on. But how can we sustain such things while living our daily lives?
Your body is always flowing, responding, and changing. Your posture is never truly fixed — it’s a living, breathing expression of your wellbeing — mentally physically, and socially. It reflects how you’re thinking, how you’re feeling, and how you’re relating to the world around you.
Whether you’re thriving, surviving, or declining, it’s revealed in your body. Your posture is not a pose. It’s an embodiment of who you really are.
Why Posture Matters
Good posture is essential to everyday wellness. There’s no aspect of your life that isn’t shaped by how you choose to engage with it physically.
And because posture is dynamic and responsive, it offers both insight into your present condition and the opportunity to shift it.
It’s not an issue to correct, but a potential to nurture
How to Improve Our Posture
You can’t force your body into an ideal position anymore than you can force yourself into a good mood. But you can create the conditions for your body to move and express itself freely and fully.
Here are three tools guide that process:
Tool Number One: Awareness.
Without judgement, simply become aware your body. What feelings and sensations can you observe? Some areas may be sensitive and easy to feel; some may be more vague — and that’s completely normal.
By simply observing and accepting yourself as you are, you become present, engaged, and ready to thrive.
Tool Number Two: Understanding.
From this awareness, consider now, what is your body actually doing? Are you living in a way that allows good posture to manifest? Are your eyes, ears, and airways open and engaged with your life? Are you breathing fully — from your neck, through your ribs, all the way down into your hips? Are you engaged with what’s around you? Are you open and flowing, or are there restrictions?
Tool Number Three: Take Action.
What are these tools, if not to way to thrive — aware, engaged, flowing.
Good posture is a life skill, that integrates your mental, physical, and social wellbeing. By making gradual improvements, you create the conditions for great posture to emerge. This is an interactive relationship: as your posture evolves, your wellbeing improves. And as your wellbeing progresses, your posture aligns.
What to do now.
Begin with awareness. Grow your understanding. And the right actions will emerge.
Give yourself time to navigate the challenges that come with any deep change. Posture is part of much broader approach to living well, and progress is often subtle and gradual.
With patience, you will look, feel, and move at your best — with presence, confidence, and vitality. And one day, you’ll look back and realise that each step has brought you now to the person you once hoped to become.
